We have been inundated with offers from students who left our sixth form last year to return to LPGS to help our existing students make their choices about their next steps and to make them aware of work experience, mentorship opportunities, Insight Days, Internships, apprenticeships and so much more. Recently, we have welcomed back:
Aishwarya who is studying HSPS at Clare College, Cambridge to speak to some of our year 12 students who take part in our Oxbridge enrichment sessions.
Emmanuel who spoke to students about studying Media at University of Kent and work experience opportunities in sports media and broadcasting
Ola who is studying Computer Science at Loughborough University, who spoke about his peer mentoring at Lloyds Bank
Macey who is studying Law and Business at University of Exeter and who had some great work experience pointers for the students.
Ife and Nancy, our Head prefects last year, both studying Law at University of Warwick.
Our alumni recorded podcasts with our fabulous Year 12 podcast prefects, Melanie and Atayana. They talked about their time at Langley and gave advice on studying, revising, combatting exam nerves, applying to university and apprenticeships, and winning the best work experience opportunities. (Listen to their podcasts at: @emay_podcast)
Ife and Nancy spoke with our year 12 careers enrichment class about networking and LinkedIn and all of the opportunities they have gained from using this fantastic network.
Ife is an AMOS Bursary scholar and ran a session for all Year 12 students considering applying. It’s safe to say he did a fantastic job because while he was at a networking event this week at Linklaters (a magic circle law firm), the AMOS Bursary, also in attendance, commented on the spike in applications. Ife made a TikTok about his AMOS Bursary experiences, which has already had over 15,000 views! We also learnt this week that LPGS is in the top 3 schools in the country for AMOS applications this year – we couldn’t be prouder to hear this! We can not thank Ife enough for returning to us to speak to the students AND, for reading and critiquing all their applications. We look forward to hearing the outcome of these applications in March.
We have also received an influx of reference requests for students who have applied to the Sutton Trust for Summer School placements. Congratulations to the year 12 students who are working so hard to win such fabulous opportunities which will make their university and apprenticeship applications stand out next year – keep going, you make us proud every day.
