Frantic Assembly Workshop
On Monday 1st March,  LPGS Year 12 Drama and Theatre students joined students at Hayes School for a workshop with a practitioner from Frantic Assembly. They learned to do a variety of Frantic Assembly’s ‘signature moves’ including some lifts,  and using some of their building blocks techniques. We had a great day, and even if the students choose not to use Frantic assembly for the practitioner for the devising component, they still learned new ways of working to develop their practical skills.
It’s not just about performance.
Costume, sound or lighting design are options students can choose rather than acting for both the devised and scripted practical exams. This year a student in Year 13 has chosen costume design for the scripted exam which is on 23rd April. Although she doesn’t have to make the costumes herself, she has chosen to use the skills learned through Textiles A Level to not only design but also create the costumes for the group doing ‘Three Women and a Piano Tuner’ for their final performance. The three female characters are all facets of the same person, so Izzy has chosen to show this through her designs, dressing them almost identically.  It is exciting to see the designs take shape in lessons, whilst her peers get on with rehearsing.

Drama and Theatre A Level - Spring Term Trips

Watching live theatre is a core part of the drama and theatre A Level course. We aim to see at least four shows a year, taking advantage of offers and schools discounts to make our theatre going affordable. We are so lucky to be in London where so much exciting and innovative theatre is available for us to watch and be inspired by, and there is no doubt that experiencing a range of live theatre feeds our students’ creativity as well as their knowledge of how meaning is created by actors, directors and designers.
Having seen Dr Semmelweis and The House of Bernarda Alba in the autumn term, we are scheduled to see Gecko’s highly acclaimed physical theatre production, ‘Kin’ about the experiences of migrants, at the National Theatre on the 23rd January. Then Frantic Assembly’s Metamorphosis at the Lyric Hammersmith on February 28th. Finally (for now) we couldn’t turn down £10 tickets to see the amazing immersive production of Guys and Dolls at the Bridge Theatre on 21st March. This opportunity will be available to dance and music students too.
