Trips, visits and extracurricular activities in the English department
We’re incredibly lucky to be so close to central London here and we make the most of the fantastic resources just at the end of a short train ride. The British Library is a favourite destination of ours and we’ve attended many free workshops and exhibitions, including Exploring Black British Literature, Windrush Stories, Breaking News exhibition, Gothic Seminars, as well as having access to their extensive collection of works.
Workshops are led by professional curators and give students an opportunity to engage with records and information that they may have never come across before, enriching their learning and generating exciting innovative ideas.
Students have attended conferences, such as Poems of the Decade, where they’ve heard some amazing poetry read live by Simon Armitage, Harry Baker, and Daljit Nagra. We visited Westminster University, who hosted a seminar on the supernatural in literature such as Dracula and Beloved.
Finally, we run our own Lit in Colour Book Club every other Wednesday lunchtime where students discuss and evaluate the books they’re reading, both inside and outside of school.
